Lemon-Inspired Creations and a Freelancer’s Journey
This May has been all about embracing the vibrant, zesty spirit of Sicilian lemons through my illustrations and photographs.
As a full-time freelancer, I’ve had the freedom to dive deep into my passion projects, but it hasn’t been without its challenges. Working alone often means I’m in my head a lot, and I don’t have a community around me to discuss creative ideas. Friends and family sometimes don’t see freelancing as a “real” job, which can be disheartening. But I’m committed to focusing on the positives and building the life I envisioned here in Sicily.

Embracing Positivity and Creativity
Despite the hurdles, I’m finding joy in the little things – long walks along the seaside in Siracusa, soaking up the Mediterranean sunshine, enjoying delicious local meals, listening to my favourite music, and, of course, creating art. Moving here from London was a dream come true, and I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity. As summer approaches, I’m eager to spend more time at the beach and let the season inspire my photos and illustrations.

Highlights of May
Joining the Pinterest Create Community
A significant milestone this month was being selected to join the Pinterest Create community. This platform has always been a favourite of mine because it allows me to share my work freely without the pressure of perfection. It’s a supportive space where my older posts continue to gain visibility, which is perfect for an introverted creator like me.

Participating in Pinterest’s Spring Challenge
This month, I took part in Pinterest’s Spring Challenge, themed around Refresh and Renew and Summer Aesthetics. Inspired by the beautiful lemon trees here in Sicily, I created a series of illustrations and photographs that capture the fresh and zesty essence of these iconic fruits. Sicilian lemons are not only delicious but also play a vital role in Mediterranean cuisine and daily life, from culinary uses to health benefits.
