Let’s Make 2025 Our Year of Creative Magic

As 2024 comes to a close, I find myself looking back on a year that pushed me to my limits and taught me the power of persistence. At the start of this year, I was in a pretty scary place. I had moved from London to Sicily, leaving behind my full-time job and steady income to chase my dream of living a creative life. I thought I could find a regular job here – teaching English, working in tourism, or something similar – but opportunities were scarce, and I didn’t speak Italian well enough to navigate most options.

Living off my savings, I poured everything into my side hustle as a freelance creative. This wasn’t new to me, I had been doing photography, illustration, and design for years, but it had never been enough to fully sustain me. My biggest fear was running out of money and being forced to move back to my parents’ home in Hungary, giving up on everything I had worked so hard for.

By October, I hit rock bottom. I couldn’t pay my rent, and for a moment, I thought I’d have to give up. But something inside me – call it intuition, call it stubbornness – kept saying, “Just keep creating. Share your work. You’ve got this.”

So I doubled down. I poured my energy into illustrating, photographing, and designing. Slowly but surely, things began to shift. By the end of the year, I started to earn a living from my creative work.

Some highlights of 2024 include being part of the Pinterest Create Community, where I participated in monthly challenges that sparked my imagination. My photography and writing were featured in Origin Magazine for the fifth time, which felt like a huge vote of confidence in my work. I landed exciting freelance projects too, including designing a logo and illustrations for an American ice cream shop, creating wall art for a chic club in Paris, and rebranding for an Australian coffee roaster.

In one of my darkest moments, I rediscovered a life coaching program I had written back in 2016 in a notebook that says Bright Ideas on the cover. It was a collection of exercises and steps I had used to help my friends and myself overcome challenges and reach goals. Reading it again reminded me of its power, and I decided to follow it myself to get back on track. It worked.

That’s when it hit me – I had to share this guide with others. So I turned it into a free digital download. If it could help me, maybe it could help someone else who’s feeling stuck or scared to follow their passion.

How to Make 2025 Your Year of Transformation

Making a big life change is tough. It’s messy, uncomfortable, and often terrifying. But it’s also worth it. Here are a few simple steps I followed, which you can try too, to start making 2025 the year you move closer to your dream.

  1. Decide what you want. Forget about what’s practical or what others expect of you. Take some time to think about what really excites you. What kind of life do you want to create for yourself? Write it down.
  2. Take small steps. Big changes don’t happen overnight. Break your goal into tiny, manageable pieces. If you want to be a freelance creative, start by building a portfolio or sharing your work online. One small action leads to another.
  3. Commit to yourself. Write a contract with yourself. Promise that no matter how hard it gets, you won’t give up. Keep it somewhere you’ll see it every day.
  4. Embrace the discomfort. Change isn’t easy. It can be awkward, frustrating, and scary. But those feelings mean you’re growing. Let them be part of the process.
  5. Create habits that support your goals. Maybe it’s setting aside time each day to work on your passion or simply making space to dream. Consistency is key.
  6. Celebrate the little wins. Every step forward matters. Finished a project? Landed a small gig? Celebrate those moments—they’re proof you’re moving in the right direction.
  7. Find your community. Surround yourself with people who inspire and support you. Whether it’s online or in person, having a network makes all the difference.

I’ve compiled more detailed steps and exercises in my free guide, Dream, Create, Achieve, Repeat. It’s designed to help you get clear on your goals and build a creative life you love. You can download it from my website as a gift to kickstart your new year.

Looking Ahead to 2025

If 2024 taught me anything, it’s that persistence and creativity can get you through even the darkest moments. My wish for you in 2025 is to take the leap toward whatever lights you up.

To everyone who has supported my journey this year, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I hope my work inspires you to take the first step toward your own creative dreams.

Here’s to a year full of possibilities, growth, and fearless creativity. You’ve got this.

Happy New Year,
Gabor
