Hey there, fellow adventurers! It’s time for another exciting recap of my monthly escapades, and boy, July was one for the books! As a London-based creator, I couldn’t resist the allure of sunny Sicily to break free from the cold, grey, and wet British weather. So, buckle up, and let’s dive into my unforgettable journey to Italy’s warm embrace!
Italy: A Love Affair
Italy, oh Italy! A country that never fails to captivate my heart. July was the perfect excuse to indulge in my Italian passion, and I decided to revisit the charming island of Sicily. Its beautiful landscapes, vibrant culture, and delicious cuisine always leave me yearning for more.
Living the Italian Dream
Staying with local families in Sicily has become a cherished tradition for me. These wonderful people have become my second family, and even though I didn’t speak their language fluently, I was thrilled to discover that my Italian was improving with every visit! Conversing with them and immersing myself in their lifestyle made me appreciate the essence of “La dolce vita” even more.
A Gastronomic Delight
Now, let’s talk about the highlight of any Italian adventure – the food! Sicily delivered an array of mouthwatering delights, leaving me positively stuffed with culinary wonders. From indulging in homemade pasta and authentic pizzas to savoring scrumptious sandwiches and pastries, I was in foodie heaven. And let’s not forget the irresistible gelato, the sweet treat that kept me company during the warm nights. It’s no wonder I want to move to Italy one day – their cuisine alone has my heart!
Exploring Palermo and Syracuse
During my stay, I divided my time between two enchanting cities – Palermo and Syracuse. Palermo charmed me with its vibrant energy and cultural richness, while Syracuse bewitched me with its ancient beauty. I also ventured to Erice, a stunning medieval city perched atop a mountain, and explored the captivating archaeological park in Syracuse. Each day was filled with awe and wonder.
The Summer Inferno
However, there’s no rose without a thorn, and Sicily had a fiery surprise in store for me. The heat was relentless, with temperatures soaring to a staggering 46 degrees Celsius! Sleeping without air conditioning was a challenge, and the only way to cope was with siestas during the day. But then, things got even crazier – first, a power cut in Syracuse, then the mountains near Palermo caught fire, leading to an apocalyptic scene. Despite the challenges, I kept my cool (quite literally) and managed to find my way to the airport amidst the chaos.
Back to London Blues
As they say, all good things must come to an end, and so did my Sicilian adventure. Now, I’m back in rainy London, missing the warmth and beauty of Italy terribly. Nevertheless, I’m grateful for the unforgettable memories, cherished moments, and the opportunity to share my journey with all of you.
